Something Is Very Wrong Under Spain — And It Is Not Stopping

10:37 CEST, Tuesday 18 August — Alhendín, Granada. A magnitude 4.8 earthquake strikes a few kilometres south of Granada city — the exact same size as the one that hit the same ground four days earlier. Spain's IGN has now located 621 earthquakes beneath the Vega de Granada in six days, every one of them shallower than 10 kilometres, and the two largest delivered ground accelerations at the level Spanish hazard mapping reserves for a once-in-475-years event. Around 600 people are out of their homes and the Alhambra has only partially reopened. The sequence was supposed to be decaying — so what switched it back on, and which fault is actually doing this? The Meridian Desk tracks the planet from the European side of the map — earthquakes, eruptions, floods, windstorms, heatwaves, and the space weather that lights up northern skies. Every video delivers the data, what Europe's own agencies are saying, and what comes next in twenty to twenty-five minutes.
